Kang Koo-Jin, NHN
NHN began to provide a full-fledged video news service in 2001 when it formed a business partnership with YTN for an online news search service. NHN needed a streaming system to effectively deliver video news, but it did not have resources to deploy this system on its own. Live Internet broadcasting requires significant infrastructure and operational resources to handle sudden and frequent traffic bursts. For example, when Chan Ho Park, the first Korean-born player in US Major League Baseball history, pitched in a baseball game, NHN's in-house system suffered from bottlenecks and exceeded its traffic limits. In addition, it suffered from copy protection issues. NHN moved to CDNetworks to solve these problems.
CDNetworks has provided CDN services to NHN in Korea, Japan, China and the US. It has helped NHN save on the resources and costs required to provide stable live Internet services on a real time basis. NHN utilizes CDNetworks’ network infrastructure, high-quality live streaming service transport technology, and content security solutions. NHN has also leveraged CDNetworks’ consulting services to realize additional cost savings and effective traffic management. Recognized as a reliable online broadcaster, in 2005 NHN was awarded five-year contract for online live broadcasts of games for the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) and the Korean Basketball League (KBL).
